Hello Everyone,
I have had the privilege of being Superintendent of Crawford County Schools for two and a
half years, and I can honestly say that I don’t know that I have felt more pride in this school
district than I feel at this moment.
Last evening, our baseball team played Metter in the Sweet 16 Playoffs at Chuck Hawkins
Field. These young men played their hearts out, and demonstrated the highest level of
sportsmanship and skill.
During the first game, I entered the press box to speak to Metter’s Superintendent. He is a
great guy, and he wanted me to know how accommodating and pleasant our Athletic Director,
Coach Craig Puckett was to the Metter team and staff by assisting them with the set-up of their
radio broadcast equipment. While I was happy to hear this, I really wasn’t surprised because
that is the character of the man I know.
Our team won the first game 12-2; but unfortunately, lost the second game in heartbreaking
fashion with a final score of 14-13. I was disappointed in the outcome, even though I knew our
team showed up strong and had every reason to keep their heads high.
While I was still thinking about some of the plays and the players, my phone rang. It was
Superintendent Longgrear. He felt compelled to call me while he was on his way home to
Metter to once again share with me how gracious, accommodating, and friendly our players,
Coach Moncrief and his staff were to the Metter coaching staff, players, and fans.
The truth is, we have many great students who demonstrate consistently what being part of
the Eagle Nation is all about. Also true is that these great students learn a lot from the examples
that our faculty and staff set for them.
I want to add that this is not the first time I have received information like this about our
students and coaching staff. In a world where all you hear is negative complaints, know that our
students are good, and that good is not only noticed by others . . . it’s contagious.
Pass on the good!
Anthony Aikens, Superintendent
Crawford County Schools
